Shooting game as a way of life.

It is a
fact that shooting/hunting is an integral part of life in our
three villages: economically, as pastime and recreation, socially,
practically (upkeep of paths...). Therefore, for everyone's benefit,
a healthy relationship must be established between hunters and 'the
others'. It concerns everyone of us.
On one hand, because of
the
risks of accidents which must be faced as guns used in the shooting
of wild boars are powerful high velocity rifles. On the other
hand,
because of the limitations - or even
these very nice hunters are a good example
for everyone
exclusions -
shooting imposes on
walkers or ramblers and on all those who simply want to enjoy our
beautiful plateau and its surroundings.
Fortunately, most of the time, when walkers encounter hunters, the
meeting is perfectly friendly or, at least, shows tolerance.
But,
unfortunately, this is not always the case. Recently, for instance,
three lady walkers met two hunters armed with their guns. It appeared
that joking was not in order and the hunters remonstrated with the
ladies: they should not have been on this path – a path kept up by
the Commune – while no signs whatsoever had indicated that a hunt
was in progress. |
One
of the hunters remarked that «if a boar came by
he would not hesitate to shoot all the same.» (Of course,
this would
be denied under scrutiny!)
Another recent incident, well-known around,
but this time much more
serious, gives credit to those who want a
change in the practices of the shooting of big games in the
Commune. This
incident is the object of a current inquiry: a donkey
has been shot and left to die by a hunter. We can well wonder how a
donkey can be mistaken for a wild boar!
It is essential and urgent that we take the security of people and
non-hunted animals seriously and that we act before an even more
serious accident occurs. Everyone who has a part of
responsibility in this matter must feel concerned.
One citizen of Valquières, Mr Jean Viala, has already acted. During
the Conseil Municipal of 24/92010, he formally asked that the Commune
adopt the hunter association named Association de Chasse Agree
(ACCA). An ACCA maintains the respect of people and animals in his
statutes, through a set of very strict security rules, controled by
the Prefecture and the hunters federation.
Our Mayor and the Conseil
Municipal have not, to this day, taken up the matter. No response so
far to encourage the creation of this association. Being the most
important land owner, the Commune should promote the setting up of an
ACCA.. (see www.chasseurdefrance.com)
We hope that Jean Viala's request will soon find a response. |
